We are actually living in a society where bullies and bullying exists. It happens anytime and anywhere to anyone. It is most likely that there are bullies in different institutions such as schools, workplaces, churches, etc. However, the number of bullying cases at school is highest. Question remains, why are there bullies at school and what can we do to prevent it?
Bullying at school is probably caused by individuals or a group of students who shows dominance and physical strength and who are most likely considered as punks and gangsters within the school premises. They try to get the advantages from the isolated or underprivileged students whose characteristics are not strong and brave enough to fight back. Bullies would cause fear, terror and violence to the victims such as: physical pain, emotional violence and so on. Often, they start bullying by threatening their victims through their emotions prior to the physical hurt. They try to taunt and tease them or perhaps mock them by using such very bad words. In addition, they might have insulted their victims’ ancestors, too. Besides these, they are likely to abuse them by pulling their hair, fighting them cruelly, pinching them, etc. Not often, if the bullies play quite severe, it might result in a homicide. Thus, those bullies will be called to trial by the allegation of the victims’ relatives, friends and witnesses and possibly put them behind bars. These have been complained by parents of the victims’ and are likely to punish those who commit such crime—bullying their beloved children.
To solve this problem, we have to engage parents and youth together. It is important for everyone in the community to work together to send a unified message against bullying. So, we have to launch an awareness campaign to make the objectives known to the schools, parents, and community members. Schools should try to contact parents to inform them of the conditions and attitudes of their children towards everyone at schools. The parents must cooperate with the school and they should try on their own to indentify the misbehaviors of their children and educate them more at home in order for them not to become one of the bullies. By following this step, parents are able to know how their children react and search for ways to seize their mind of not joining those bullies who are criticized, disliked and ridiculed by the school community and the society as a whole.
School owners, managers, principals and directors have to build a safe environment in the school by creating school policies, rules or disciplines. They have to deal with those bullies by making school policies which are to cease aggressive and violent behaviors and abuses to those weak victims who suffer and experience poor treatment. It is possible that the number of bullies will decrease day by day. If students break any of the school rules or disciplines, they will be punished or expelled by the school principal or the academic board. Punished, rehabilitated or sent to correctional facilities, bullies will be put into shame or perhaps become more aware of their misbehaviors and bullying mistakes.
We have to deny being motivated by the bullies who are surrounding us. Therefore, we have to reconsider about the impacts of bullying and avoid being involved in bullying other people. I believed that everyone is equal, so we have to be fair with other people and not to violate their rights. As a result, we will find our classes with no signs of violence, but instead it’s full of joy and comfort.
